Isis District State High School encourages student participation in sporting opportunities available as a means of providing physical exercise and the development of positive attitudes to competition and teamwork. There are several opportunities for student involvement offered at the school.

Recess breaks

During the year, various ‘round robin’ competitions are organised for student involvement, generally amongst the junior year levels. These include touch and volleyball competitions. Students may also organise sport activities amongst their own friends.

Bundaberg District Secondary School Sports competition

Isis District State High School participates in this district competition which hosts a summer and winter competition on Wednesday afternoons after school in Bundaberg. The school transports students by bus to Bundaberg immediately after school on Wednesdays for involvement in this competition and returns to IDSHS after. The regular array of Summer and Winter sports are available, though the school will only nominate teams for which there is clearly a sustainable number of student participants to form a team. Both Summer and Winter competitions culminate in a ‘Finals Day’ to determine premiership teams.

On occasions, ‘one-off’ sporting teams are also arranged for student participation, for example Rugby Union.

North Burnett District Secondary School Sports representation

Isis District State High School is a member of the North Burnett District for representative sport under the Queensland State Secondary School Sports Association authority. Student participation in this competition is through Summer and Winter trials, as well as the three school carnivals (see below). These competitions are hosted as ‘day events’ at school locations throughout North Burnett. Successful participation in these trials/carnivals can result in selection to North Burnett teams for further involvement in Wide Bay trails for selection. Elite sportspersons may then contest further selection through Wide Bay teams at Queensland trails and to National selection.
